Strong Start to 2021

This afternoon, the Wahoo BBC of Royal Oak opened their 2021 season by welcoming the Early Riser Base Ball Club of Detroit to Starr Jaycee Park. The guests once again brought a full contingency of both players and spectators.

Having narrowly lost their season and home opener the day before to the always-tough Walker Tavern Wheels Vintage Base Ball Club, the Early Risers were eager to pick up a win today. After winning the coin toss, electing to strike first, and scoring two quick runs to start the game, it appeared they just might get their wish.

Undaunted, the host Wahoos scored two runs of their own in their first innings to tie the game and added four more runs in the second innings -- the last of which proved to be the stay-ahead run. Ultimately, victory perched on the bat-sticks of the Wahoos with a final tally of 14-5 in a well-contested display by both teams.

Peaches led the Wahoo offense with three runs as nine of 11 Wahoos scored runs today. Puddin' had the game's only clean score by reaching base all four times he struck and scoring a run in the pivotal second innings. Five different players scored a run for the Early Risers.

Both teams displayed handsome fielding and throwing on defense with the Early Risers catching a number of balls on the fly in style.

Both teams take a week off before resuming play. The Early Risers trek out to Ida, Michigan on May 15 to play the Great Black Swamp Frogs as part of the area's Community Day. The Wahoos visit the Eclipse Base Ball Club of Northville on May 16.

An unofficial period summary of the game is attached.
